GPS-Enabled Handsets Expected to Bypass the Economic Downturn
Shipments of GPS-enabled mobile phones will hit a speed-bump in 2009, but will still manage to post year-to-year unit growth through the current economic downturn, according to a new market study by ABI Research. While global handset shipments are expected to drop by 4-5% in 2009, GPS-enabled phones will climb to 240 million units, an increase of 6.4% over 2008. more

An Australian Mobile Internet Insight report published by analytics firm, Amethon has found that browsing habits and data consumption for users of the new 3G apple device is significantly higher than the average mobile device. The report, which provides insight into Australia's mobile web browsing activities for August, says that the iPhone completely dominated data consumption behaviour and iPhone generated traffic was growing at nine percent per day. more

A new report Canalys finds that growth slowed in the smart phone market in EMEA in Q2, but total shipments of 12.6 million still made it the second biggest quarter ever in volume terms. Canalys estimates that smart phones represented 13% of all mobile phone shipments. more
