China Mobile Profits Up; But ARPU Down
The Hong-Kong listed arm of China Mobile has reported that its first quarter profits rose by 5.2% compared to the year before, to reach RMB 25.21 billion (US$3.69 billion). Operating revenues reached RMB 101.3 billion, representing an increase of 9.2% compared to the same period of last year. EBITDA reached RMB 53.4 billion, representing an increase of 7.7% compared to the same period of last year. more

AT&T Seeking to Extend iPhone Exclusivity Deal
US operator, AT&T is reported to be pushing apple to extend its exclusive rights to the iPhone range of handsets within the USA for an additional two years. The company secured the exclusivity when the handset was launched, and the contract is widely presumed to expire sometime next year. more

Half of Brits Have Not Changed Phone Usage Patterns in Past 5 Years
Voice and text remain the ¢â‚¬Ëœkiller' applications worldwide as mobile phone users across the globe admit to using their devices for the same things that they did in 2003. Research commissioned by telecom application connectivity specialist AppTrigger also showed that despite advances in mobile phone functionality and the launch of devices such as apple's iPhone, almost a third (30%) of Americans and Canadians and more than half of UK adults (57%) insist that the way in which they use their mobiles has not changed for five years. more

Rogers Posts 84% in 3rd Quarter Profits on iPhone Sales
Canada's Rogers Communications has reported an 84% jump in 3rd quarter profits on strong sales of apple's iPhone handset and net subscriber growth. The company posted a net income of CA$495 million (US$386 million) compared to CA$269 million (US$210 million) a year ago. Revenues climbed by 14% to CA$3 billion (US$2.34 billion) as the company sold around 255,000 of the 3G iPhone handset. more
