Windows Phone OS to Overtake Apple iPhone by 2015 - Report

­The worldwide smartphone market is forecast to grow 55% year over year in 2011 as a growing number of users turn in their feature phones for more advanced devices. According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, vendors will ship a total of 472 million smartphones in 2011 compared to roughly 305 million units shipped in 2010. That figure will nearly double to 982 million by the end of 2015.  more

Symbian Still Leading in Malaysian Smartphone Market

­2010 was a boom year for the mobile phone industry in Malaysia, as consumers snapped up over 24 percent more units of mobile phone; growing the overall value of the industry by 30 percent compared to the year before. Smartphones were the key contributors to the industry's good performance, with GfK Malaysia's retail audit findings reflecting more than a two-fold growth of 208 percent in the number of units sold, and 150 percent increase in terms of value sales.  more

Android Overtook Nokia as Top Selling Smartphone OS in Q4 2010

­The Google backed android smartphone platform has overtook Nokia's Symbian OS during the last quarter of 2010, according to figures released by Canalys. Shipments of android-based smart phones reached 32.9 million, while devices running Nokia's Symbian platform trailed slightly at 31.0 million worldwide. However, Nokia did retain its position as the largest single brand smartphone vendor, with a share of 28%.  more

Apple's Steve Wozniak Seen with a White iPhone

­Apple's co-founder, Steve Wozniak was seen last week carrying the elusive white variant of Apple's iPhone, which has been repeatedly delayed due to apparent manufacturing difficulties. Speaking to CNN at the Computer History Museum in Silicon Valley, he also carried an unnamed android OS based smartphone and a conventional iPhone while he mused on technology and its impact on society.  more

Google Exec Reports 300,000 New Android Activations Per Day

Google's android OS has seen a surge in sales recently with a reported 300,000 new activations being registered each day, compared to around 200,000 activations per day in August. The 300,000 figure came from a message sent by Andrew Rubin to the Twitter website. He is currently VP of Engineering at Google, where he is overseeing development of the android OS.  more

IMS Research Sees Android Taking Share of the Tablet Market

Over 15 suppliers will be selling android-based tablets by mid 2011, including Acer, Cisco, Dell, Motorola, OpenPeak, Samsung, Viewsonic, and many more. Based on a recent study, IMS Research forecasts that android will grow its share of the market from a projected 15.2% in 2011 to 28.4% in 2015.  more
