Dutch WiMAX Network to Close Down
Dutch WiMAX network operator, Worldmax has announced that it is closing down its network in amsterdam from this August. At the end of last year, Worldmax was informed by the Dutch government that it was causing radio interference with satellite stations in Burum, owned by the Ministry of Defense. In the interest of national security the government saw no other option than to put major restrictions on the Worldmax license. After starting court proceedings end of last year, parties have now settled this issue out of court. more

Smart card provider, Gemalto has announced the successful integration of Japan Credit Bureau's (JCB) contactless payment solution, J/Speedy onto its Near Field Communications (NFC) SIM card. In this way, Gemalto has provided both NFC-embedded mobile and SIM-based NFC options supporting two of the industry's most popular contactless standards. 21Net Supplying "Wi-Fi Backhaul" for High-Speed Railway Internet Services
21Net, a UK high-tech company specialised in broadband Internet access on board high speed trains, says that it has been selected by the Trans European high-speed train operator Thalys to deliver the broadband Internet access to passengers travelling between Paris, Brussels, amsterdam and Cologne. 21Net has been selected by Thalys as part of a consortium lead by Nokia Siemens Networks. This consortium will combine satellite, mobile phone technologies (GPRS and UMTS) with wireless networks similar to Wi-Fi Hotspots to provide a continuous Internet connection on board trains travelling at the speed of 300 km/h. more

Thalys, the European high speed train operator, has selected a consortium to provide wireless broadband Internet access to passengers traveling between Paris, Brussels, amsterdam and Cologne by 2008.
