American Tower to buy 196 Towers from Cincinnati Bell

­US tower owner, American Tower has entered into an agreement to acquire 196 of Cincinnati Bell's wireless communications towers for US$100 million. The towers are located primarily in Ohio and Kentucky and currently average 2.1 tenants per tower. Cincinnati Bell will remain a tenant on all 196 towers pursuant to a long-term Master Lease Agreement.  more

Former Cold-War Microwave Towers Reused for Possible Wind Turbine Sites

A wind farm firm has inked a deal to put test kit on nearly 1,200 radio towers to monitor the average wind speed and see if the area would be suitable for installing electricity wind turbines. The towers are owned by American Tower and were originally built by AT&T for cold-war defence purposes. All of the sites have permitted access roads and power links to the electrical distribution grid thus addressing a cost and permitting impediment to many wind power projects.  more

American Tower Corp has launched legal action against a former Goldman Sachs Group executive for allegedly forging an email as to make it seem to have come from American Tower CEO, James Taiclet. The lawsuit claims that Jide Zeitlin forwarded an news article published on CNN's web site in October 2006 to two of American Tower's institutional investors, manually entering the email address of James Taiclet into the website.  more

Metawave signs American contract and lays off staff

Metawave has signed a letter of intent with an unnamed American tower company to enter into a purchase agreement for Metawave's new smart antenna sharing solution, called SmartShare. SmartShare, which is designed to support all major air interfaces operating in the 800 MHz and 1900 MHz frequencies, will allow multiple operators to share a single set of antenna panels at a cell site. more
