ZTE, Qualcomm and Aircell Collaborate on In-flight Mobile Broadband System
It has been announced that China's ZTE has been working with Qualcomm to create the networking platform for AircellÃ's new Inflight Internet service, Gogo, which first began service in August on select American Airlines flights. AircellÃ's Air-to-Ground (ATG) service relies on ZTEÃ's EV-DO Rev. A base stations and IP switching platform and QualcommÃ's aircraft-mounted modems. more

SonyEricsson overtakes Nokia in brand loyalty stakes
A recent brand loyalty report has shown that several mobile phone companies are rising up the tables. The latest Brand Keys' Customer Loyalty Leaders survey found that T-Mobile (76 to 38) and Sony Ericsson (93 to 22) both jumped up the league tables, while Nokia (50 to 61) and Siemens (52 to 125) have dropped down. more

Another airline loosens cell phone usage rules
America's Continental Airlines has followed the lead set by American Airlines last month and has also announced a policy revision allowing customers to use their cellular telephones sooner after an aircraft lands at its destination. Under the new policy effective cellular phone use is permitted after landing when advised by the flight attendants. Previously, phone use was restricted until the aircraft door opened at the arrival gate. more

Cell usage on planes to be allowed - while on the ground
American Airlines customers soon will be able to use their cell phones longer before departures and sooner after landings on most aircraft as American becomes the first airline to increase "talk time" for customers on the ground. Effective July 8th, customers will be able to use cell phones, two-way pagers and other electronic devices until the aircraft door is shut, giving them additional time to stay connected as they prepare to depart. Customers on most arriving flights will be able to use cell phones shortly after landing, while the aircraft is taxiing to the gate. more
