eReader Shipments to Reach 67m by 2016, Up from 25m in 2011, Despite Tablet Threat

­A new report by analyst firm Juniper Research forecasts that eReader shipments will reach 67 million by 2016, nearly triple the 25 million devices the company expects to reach the market in 2011. While this is less than half the 55.2 million tablets that will be shipped this year, the price of the market-leading Kindle has fallen significantly (from $349 to $79) since it was launched, and electronic ink technology will ensure that the device continues to carve out a niche for itself in the wireless device ecosystem.  more

2013 Will See eBook Reader Markets Catch Fire

The market for eBook readers has until now been largely restricted to the United States, and has been led by Amazon's Kindle, Barnes & Noble's Nook, and Sony's Reader. But ­according to ABI Research, starting in 2013 eBook reader markets will start to expand globally. Impact of the Apple iPad vs Amazon Kindle on the e-Reader Market

The e-Reader market has essentially become a two horse race between the Amazon Kindle and the Apple iPad, according to ChangeWave's latest survey of more than 2,800 consumers. The Amazon Kindle (47%; down 15-pts) is hanging on to a rapidly diminishing lead over the Apple iPad (32%; up 16-pts) among current e-Reader owners.
