Alvarion and National Grid Conduct Smart Power Grid Proof of Concept in the USA
Israeli WiMAX vendor, alvarion says that it will work with the USA's National Grid to participate in a smart power grid Proof of Concept (SPG), as part of a technology test-bed for potential pilot projects in New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The proof of concept will begin in September 2009, and will provide backhaul for SPG smart meters and distribution automation devices for residences and businesses using WiMAX technology. more
Alvarion Wins Angolan WiMAX Contract
WiMAX vendor, alvarion says that it has won a network expansion contract in Angola from local ISP, Mundo Startel. The operator is partially owned by Telecom Namibia, along with a number of other local partners, who have committed to invest over $55 million in Angola to deploy 100,000 wireless lines providing voice and high speed data services in Luanda and throughout the country. more

Alvarion Revenues Down - CEO to Resign
Israeli WiMAX vendor, alvarion has reported that its second quarter of 2009 revenues were US$58.7 million, a decrease of 16% from $69.7 million in the second quarter of 2008. The net loss in the quarter was US$4 million, including net charges of US$1.7 million mainly in connection with the organizational changes implemented in April 2009, compared to net loss of US$812,000 in Q2 2008. more

Alvarion Wins Italian Mobile WiMAX Contract
alvarion says that it has won a Mobile WiMAX deployment contract from Aria, the only telecom operator in Italy with a national WiMAX license. Under the agreement, Aria will build a network at the 3.5 GHz frequency to offer broadband services to all 21 Italian regions. more
