Megafon and Turkcell to be Merged into Single Holding Company

Russian Bailiff Defers Sale on VimpleCom Sales

Russia's bailiff has reportedly delayed the sale of Telenor's shares in VimpleCom for an unspecified period. Citing a press conference, the Norwegian business daily Dagens Naeringsliv said that Artur Parfyonchikov, head for the bailiff's office in Moscow needed more time to study the court documents which lead to the shares being seized originally.  more

Court Orders Sale of Turkcell Stake to TeliaSonera for $3.1 Billion

TeliaSonera has won a legal ruling forcing Turkish holding company, Cukurova to sell its stake in Turkcell Holding to TeliaSonera for a cash consideration of US$3.1 billion. TeliaSonera says that it now intends to enforce the award against Cukurova in Turkey. If the shares are not delivered, TeliaSonera will demand damages from Cukurova in the amount of US$1.8 billion, which is the value for TeliaSonera of a lost transaction as determined by the arbitration tribunal.  more

Vimpelcom and Kyivstar Reported to be in Merger Talks

The long-running feud between Telenor and Russia's Alfa Group may be nearing a conclusion after it was reported that the two companies are again considering merging VimpelCom and Ukraine's Kyivstar. Two executives close to the companies told Vedomosti that the deal envisions Alfa's telecoms arm, altimo and Telenor each receiving a 40 percent stake of the merged company, with the additional shares going to various VimpelCom minority shareholders  more

Russian Bailiffs to Sell Telenor's Stake in VimpelCom

Russian bailiffs have passed an order to auction off Telenor's shares in Russian mobile network operator, VimpelCom to cover a disputed US$1.7 billion fine. Responding to the news, Telenor said that it has not received any other information from the Bailiff's office than what has been posted on the Bailiff's home page.  more

Farimex Launches Attack Against Telenor in Ukraine

According to a statement from Telenor, Farimex, reputed to be attacking Telenor's investments in the Russian mobile operator VimpelCom, is also behind an investigation launched by the Anti-Monopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMC) against Telenor and Kyivstar. Telenor says that it was officially notified of the commenced investigation earlier this month.  more

Alfa Held in Contempt by US Court - Telenor's VimpelCom Shares Arrested in Russia

Telenor has issued a statement announcing that a US federal court in New York yesterday held four Alfa Group companies in contempt for the second time for their failure to comply with the court's orders confirming the Kyivstar arbitration award. Shortly after the hearing ended, Telenor heard rumours that a Russian bailiff acting on behalf of Farimex Product, had arrested all of Telenor's shares in Russian mobile operator VimpelCom. This was confirmed this morning.  more

MTS Wins Appeal Over Seizure of Kyrgyz Network Assets

Russia's Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) has announced that it has successfully appealed the decision of an Isle of Man court to decline jurisdiction over their claim for the unlawful seizure of Kyrgyz mobile operator, Bitel. Almost exactly a year ago, the court declined to hear the case, and MTS launched its appeal.  more

US Federal Court Grants Telenor Motion, Holds Altimo in Contempt,

The US Federal Court for the Southern District of New York on 19 November granted Telenor's motion requesting that Alfa Group companies altimo, Alpren, Hardlake and Storm be held in contempt of court for their failure to obey a November 2, 2007 court order upholding Telenor's arbitration award against Alfa Group subsidiary Storm.  more
