Verizon Profits Rise as Wireless Growth Starts to Slow

US based Verizon Communications has reported a rise in its fourth-quarter profits, although growth in its wireless subscriber base slowed even as landline subscribers continued to shut-down their accounts. The firm recorded a quarterly profit of US$1.2 billion compared to US$1.1 billion a year ago - on sales of US$24.6 billion (compared to US$23.8 billion a year ago).  more

Vodafone First Half Profits Drop 35% on Turkish Write-Down

Vodafone has reported a drop of 35% in net profit for the first half of this year to £2.17 billion (US$3.2 billion), from £3.33 billion (US$5.25 billion) a year ago. The loss included an impairment loss of £1.7 billion (US$2.7 billion) on its Turkish network. First half operating profits before taxes rose by just over 10% to £5.8 billion (US$9.05 billion) on revenues up by 17% to £19.9 billion.  more

US Regulator Investigating T-Mobile Shareholding

Deutsche Telekom is facing an investigation into its ownership of T-Mobile USA which could potentially result in the company being forced to sell a stake in the firm. The investigation was sparked by the pending merger of Verizon Wireless and alltel, which has prompted the US telecoms regulator, the FCC to take a look at foreign-controlled assets held by the companies.  more
