Algeria seperates its telecoms operations

The Algerian government has formally created a stand alone company to manage and develop the state owned telecoms infrastructure. The company is to be known as Algerie Telecom and will have an initial capital of US$1.3 million. The government said that the company's first priority will be to develop its GSM network and manage a government initiated tender for a contract to expand the existing GSM network by 500,000 lines.
