Verizon Announces LTE Deployment Plans - Going Live in 2010

Verizon's CTO, Dick Lynch has outlined the company's plans to roll out an LTE upgrade for its wireless network. Lynch announced that Verizon Wireless has selected Ericsson and alcatel-lucent as primary network vendors for its initial LTE network deployments. These two vendors are expected to build the underlying infrastructure that will enable Verizon Wireless to become the first wireless company to offer commercial LTE-based service in the United States, starting in 2010.  more

Alcatel-Lucent Wins Cambodian WiMAX Contract

alcatel-lucent has been chosen by Cambodia's Chuan Wei to deploy a nation-wide WiMAX Rev-e (802.16e-2005 standard) wireless broadband network, Cambodia's first. Commercial services are set for launch in mid 2009.  more

Alvarion and Huawei Join WiMAX Patents Group

Alvarion and Huawei have joined the Open Patent Alliance (OPA) - which manages the WiMAX patent pool. Alvarion and Huawei join current OPA members alcatel-lucent, Cisco, Clearwire, Intel, and Samsung Electronics. As a result, it is expected that licensing terms for patents pertaining to WiMAX, including the associated royalty rates will be more predictable, transparent, and at lower cost. Furthermore the WiMAX patent pool may act as a "one stop shop" where companies building WiMAX solutions can obtain use of the patents more simply, efficiently and cost effectively, under a more competitive royalty structure that charges only for the features required to develop WiMAX products.  more

Alcatel-Lucent Wins Spanish WiMAX Contract

Alcatel-Lucent Wins WiMAX Contract in Azerbaijan

alcatel-lucent has been awarded a contract by Delta Telecom to deploy Azerbaijan's first commercial WiMAX 802.16e-2005 (Rev-e) network. It will accommodate stationary, nomadic and mobile applications and will complement Delta Telecom's existing fixed broadband services in sparsely populated areas, where technical and economic factors sometimes make fixed broadband deployments impractical.  more

Alcatel-Lucent Wins Military WiMAX Contract
