Alcatel Lucent Planning 1,000 Job Cuts in France

A French union has claimed that alcatel Lucent is preparing to cut a further 1,000 job in France over the next two years. The unnamed source told Dow Jones Newswires that the job cuts would affect several units, notably administrative and sales positions and some industrial activities.  more

Indian telecom equipment beats downturn; grows 20% to nearly $25 billion

The Indian telecom equipment industry reported a 20% growth in revenues to comfortably cross the US$24 billion mark during FY 2008-09 compared to a 24% growth recorded in the previous financial year (2007-08). Indian trade magazine, Voice&Data said that the result was not surprising because despite overall economic slowdown, India has been witnessing over 10 million month-on-month new mobile subscriber additions, and telecom operators have been buying equipment to expand their networks.  more

Telecom Equipment Market Expected to Suffer a Sharp Downturn in 2009

The global telecommunications equipment market grew by close to 5% in 2008: a moderate rate of growth that involved a shift in the contribution made by handset components and infrastructure hardware reports IDATE. Alcatel-Lucent Writes Off $5 Billion in Assets

Huawei Expecting a 46% Jump in 2008 Sales to $23.3 Billion

China's Huawei is anticipated to report a 46% jump in global contract sales for 2008 to US$23.3 billion, according to an internal email seen by the China Business News. Huawei Technologies also forecast sales of more than US$30 billion in 2009, the newspaper said, citing the internal Huawei e-mail dated 2nd January 2009.  more
