Thailand AIS - Credit-Control Crunch Catapults Contract Churn
Full-year results from Thai market leader ais show the company to have ended 2007 with a customer base of 24.1m, up from 19.5m a year earlier. In proportionate terms, the year's growth amounted to 23.5% of the 2006 total, the best performance by the company since 2003. The growth rate still lagged behind rival DTAC, which registered a 32.9% increase, but in absolute terms the growth amounted to a greater number of net additions - 4.58m against DTAC's 3.90m - extending ais' lead over DTAC from 7.65m to 8.33m customers over the course of the 12 months to 31st December 2007. more

Nokia Siemens Wins Thai GSM Contract
Nokia Siemens Networks has won a contract to expand Thai mobile operator, aiss' GSM network. The project, to be rolled out over the course of 2008, includes a Release 4 mobile softswitch solution that will help the mobile operator evolve towards advanced mobile services in the near future. more

Thai Operator Considers Deploying 3G Services at 900Mhz
Thailand's Advanced Info Service (ais) says that it should be able to roll out 3G services, even without a specific operator license - by offering 3G services over the company's existing 900Mhz spectrum. The company has already set aside US$600 million for the first phase of 3G mobile phone services in Bangkok and 20 major provinces. more

Thailand's AIS to Focus on Revenues not Subscriber Growth
Thailand's Advanced Info Service (ais) says that it plans to shift its focus in 2008 to maintaining its revenue share rather than increasing subscribers. Speaking to the Bangkok Post, Chief executive Vikrom Sriprataks said that the company aims to capture at least half of the THB159 billion (US$5.3 billion) spent on telecom services per year. more

Record-breaking quarter for Truecorp but AIS still leads
ais and Truecorp, Thailand's 1st and 3rd largest operators respectively, have reported their third quarter results for 2007. ais maintained a customer base over twice the size of that of Truecorp, but only just: with 23.3m customers, ais was 107% larger than Truecorp, which had 11.2m customers. A year previously, ais was 162% larger, and even at the end of Q2 the ratio was 1.5 to 1. more

Thai Operator, AIS Plans US$600 Million Spend on 3G in 2008
Thailand's Advanced Info Service (ais) plans to spend up to US$600 million on its 3G network during 2008, reports The Bangkok Post. Hui Weng Cheong, deputy president for wireless communications, told the newspaper that ais would seek loans to fund the 3G network, with initial capacity of 10 million users or about 40% of its total customer base. more

ROK Streams Live Music Concert to GPRS Handsets
ROK Entertainment, the UK-based mobile TV vendor, says that it has successfully completed the world's first music concert to be streamed live over mass-market 2.5G via GPRS to mobile phones.
The 'Be My Guest' concert was staged on Saturday 14th July at the Bangkok Hall in Thailand and was streamed across a 4 hour period, live and exclusive, to mobile operator ais's ROK TV service. more
