New Warnings Issued About Using Mobile Phones on Aircraft

The UK's Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has issued a warning to airline passengers that using mobile phones during flight is still forbidden on most aircraft. Although some airlines have introduced 'mobile phone systems' on a number of their aircraft, the use of mobile phones generally remains prohibited on the majority of aircraft.  more

Business Jets to Get In-Flight Mobile Phone Service

In-flight mobile phone service provider, OnAir and business jet company, Aviation Center Cologne (ACC) have reached an agreement for the provision of communication services to the business jet market. Under the agreement, ACC will install the airborne equipment to enable business jet passengers to use their mobile phones and BlackBerry-type devices during flights.  more

Vodafone Portugal Offers In-Flight Phone Calls

Vodafone Portugal has started making its mobile communications services available on board TAP (Air Portugal) aircrafts, following the signature of a roaming agreement with the operator OnAir. Initially, the service is available on a TAP aircraft (Airbus A319) connecting Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Madeira and the Azores with several European cities.  more

Air France to Offer In-Flight GSM Connectivity

The French state airline, Air France will take delivery in early 2007 of the first Airbus aircraft line fitted with the OnAir GSM equipment enabling the use of mobile phones on board, it was announced lst week, at the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg. Air France will receive the first aircraft, a single-aisle Airbus A318 that will have the OnAir system pre-installed, and will conduct a six month commercial trial using the new service. The passenger trials will take place on short-haul flights within Europe and to and from North African destinations, and will help Air France to consider every impact this new service may have on the cabin environment and the travel experience. more
