Argent Networks has won a US$2.25million convergent billing and customer care contract from Afghanistan's Afghan Wireless Communication Company (AWCC) - a joint venture between New York-based Telephone Systems International, (TSI) and the Afghan Ministry of Communications. AWCC has chosen Argent Networks' award-winning ArgentEclipse product to provide pre paid and post paid billing and customer care for its wireless GSM and IP (Internet Protocol) networks. more

Kabul's police and fire services given GSM handsets
Afghanistan's first GSM network, Afghan Wireless has donated 30 GSM handsets and mobile service to Kabul's police and fire departments. The donation will be utilized to facilitate emergency response throughout the city of Kabul. Afghan Wireless' presentation of the mobile phones and GSM local mobile service took place on 24 October, 2002 at the Ministry of Interior in Kabul. Prior to this event, Kabul police and fire response units were hindered by limited access to communications. more

Afghan mobile phone network connects to the USA
Telephone Systems International (TSI), which is the joint partner in the Afghanistan based GSM network, Afghan Wireless Communications Company (AWCC) says that it has been granted permission from the USA telecoms regulator to start offering international calls between the USA and Afghanistan. It is the first U.S. company to receive such authorization since establishment of the Afghan Interim Government in December 2001. more
