Survey Finds: 17% of Shoppers Spent Over $100 on Mobile Apps in 2008
A survey of 235 US smartphone users who installed applications on their devices in 2008, conducted by ABI Research in November, reveals that a surprising 16.5% spent between $100 and $499. That level of spending is especially significant given the low cost of most mobile applications, ranging from as little as a dollar or two at Apple's iPhone App Store, to at most about $25. more

Dual-Mode Cellular/Wi-Fi Handset Shipments to Double from 2008 Through 2010
Shipments of Wi-Fi-enabled cellular handsets will double in volume by the end of 2010, compared to January 2008, and that growth curve is expected to continue through 2013. Consumers View MIDs as Cell Phone Replacements
In November 2008 ABI Research carried out a survey of more than 1000 adult consumers in the United States, aimed at identifying their attitudes to netbooks and Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs). MIDs have been proposed by some as cell phone replacements. Does the public agree? WiMAX Facing a Brighter Future Where Technology-Neutral Spectrum Is Available
WiMAX networks in Europe are being deployed in most countries using spectrum at 3.5 GHz. However these are mostly confined to offering fixed wireless services. The mobile version of WiMAX (IEEE802.16e-2005) is also being deployed at 3.5 GHz and has been trialed in The Netherlands using 2.6 GHz spectrum. This latter is earmarked as the UMTS extension band for 3G operators to use. more
