Sweden Consults on Auction of 800Mhz Radio Spectrum

­Sweden's telecoms regulator, the PTS has issued a request for views on future use of the 800 MHz radio spectrum and the market's interest in licenses in the band. The Swedish government decided in 2007 that the band should be used for other services than terrestrial broadcast television. The PTS says that it wishes to make the frequencies available to the market as soon as possible.  more

UK Planning a Shake-Up of Radio Spectrum

The UK government has published details of plans to revamp radio spectrum management which could resolve a long-running battle between the two original mobile networks. Trinidad and Tobago to Award a 3rd Mobile Phone License

The telecoms regulator in the Caribbean nation of Trinidad and Tobago has announced plans to award a 3rd mobile license in the country. The regulator says that the license will be for radio spectrum in both the 800mhz and 1900Mhz bands, which leaves the market open to both GSM and CDMA operators.  more

Panasonic Ships 100 Millionth Handset to Japanese Operators

Panasonic Mobile says that it has become the  that at the end of March this year it became the first mobile phone manufacturer to achieve a record delivery of 100 million units of mobile communication terminals to Japanese mobile phone carriers. Trinidad Cancels Laqtel's Mobile License Over Upaid Fines

The Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago has terminated the mobile phone license which had been held by Laqtel. The company was granted a license for blocks of spectrum in the 800mhz and 1900MHz bands at the end of 2005, but has had problems raising funds to pay for the license and roll out its network.  more

Vietnamese Operator Confirms CDMA to GSM Migration

Vietnamese CDMA operator, HT Mobile says that it has been granted permission from the Ministry of Information and Communications to migrate its network over to the GSM platform. The company expects to retain use of its existing 800mhz spectrum and reuse up to 80% of its old equipment. more

Telecoms authorities meeting to discuss spectrum interference

Mexico's deputy communications minister Rafael del Villar Alrich and the president of telecoms regulator Cofetel, Héctor Osuna, will meet with their US counterparts on Friday in Mexico City to discuss spectrum interference along their shared border, Cofetel said in a statement. more
