World's First Femtocell Standard Published by 3GPP
Three trade bodies, The Femto Forum, 3gpp and the Broadband Forum have jointly announced that the world's first femtocell standard has been officially published by 3gpp, paving the way for interoperability between different vendors' access points and femto gateways. The new standard, which forms part of 3gpp's Release 8, and interdependent with Broadband Forum extensions to its Technical Report-069 (TR-069), has been completed in just 12 months following cooperation between the three groups. more

Qasara demonstrates Virtual LTE Mobile at LTE World Summit
Qasara has announced the availability of a virtual LTE mobile platform. Nortel and LG Demo LTE Handover at 100 km per hour
Nortel and LG Electronics have completed what they say is the world's first mobile LTE live air handover. Engineers at Nortel's Research and Development Centre of Excellence in Ottawa showed streaming HD video on an early LTE mobile device from LG Electronics while driving at speeds of 100 kms per hour and moving between coverage sites. more

LTE Group Defines Interoperability Testing Standards
The LTE SAE Trial Initiative (LSTI), a global group of LTE equipment vendors and operators, has outlined plans for cross-vendor device to network interoperability testing of LTE. In an initial step, a common set of features for LTE Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) and Time Division Duplex (TDD) equipment is being defined as the basis for early interoperability tests between devices and infrastructure. This feature set definition is expected to be complete by the end of 2008 and will be followed by interoperability tests across infrastructure equipment, mobile devices, and chipsets from the various LSTI member companies. more

Telecom Industry Group Sees Soaring Speeds for LTE Mobile Broadband
The LTE/SAE Trial Initiative (LSTI) says that it has completed a second round of LTE tests which show that the technology is on track to bring super-fast wireless broadband capabilities to the mass market. InterDigital and SK Telecom Extend Wireless Handover Collaboration
InterDigital says that it has extended its existing contract with South Korea's SK Telecom to expand seamless roaming services between different wireless technologies. LTE/SAE trial initiative (LSTI) delivers initial results
The first phase in a trial of an evolved version of today's mobile phone radio access technology designed to deliver much higher wireless data rates has proven a success. The LTE/SAE (Long Term Evolution/System Architecture Evolution) Trial Initiative (LSTI) launched in May this year has reported the successful delivery of the first in a series of test results aimed at proving the potential and benefits of LTE. LTE is being standardized by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3gpp) as a next generation mobile broadband technology. more
