Industry predicts 21 Mbps to be next mobile broadband baseline
Mobile broadband is continuing to grow at a fast pace due to the ever increasing introduction of new technologies, new networks, new devices and competitive innovation in the market. In July, the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA) announced that 7.2 Mbps had become the new baseline for mobile broadband globally, since at that time half of the HSPA networks in commercial service globally were capable of supporting a peak downlink data speed of 7.2 Mbps or higher, supported by almost 600 user devices capable of 7.2 Mbps or higher which had been launched in the market. Some HSPA systems support a peak downlink data speed up to 14.4 Mbps. more
GSA confirms 7.2 Mbps as new baseline for HSPA
Half of the HSPA networks in commercial service globally are capable of peak downlink data speeds of 7.2 Mbps or higher, according to research just published by the Global mobile Suppliers Association (GSA). more
Aeroflex TM500 Test Mobile is First With DC-HSDPA Support
Aeroflex has announced that its TM500 test mobile now supports the new 3gpp W-CDMA Release 8 Dual Cell HSDPA (DC-HSDPA) feature. The Aeroflex TM500 not only provides the ability to test a base station and network against a single mobile both in the lab and over the air, but also supports multi-UE configurations enabling base station and core network designs to be load tested, stressed and optimized to ensure that robust, flexible and high-performance solutions are delivered to network operators. more

New Technology Could Double 3G Network Voice Call Capacity
Finnish operator Elisa and Nokia Siemens Networks have demonstrated a new technology that allows operators to increase voice capacity of their 3G networks, potentially up to double the baseline capacity. The trial call was conducted in Elisa's live 3G network using R&D prototype devices supplied by Nokia. In technical terms the demonstration was of the world's first circuit switched call over a high speed packet access network (CSoHSPA). more
