Huawei and Qualcomm complete Europe's first MBMS field trial

Huawei and Qualcomm have jointly announced the completion of Europe's first MBMS (Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Service) field trial, carried out in conjunction with Telecom Italia. MBMS technology is based on 3gpp standards and supports multicast and broadcast services, allowing speeds of up to 256kbps on a mobile device.  more

UK Operators Sharing 3G Spectrum for Mobile TV Trials

Orange and T-Mobile UK have announced they intend to jointly pilot a new mobile TV and multimedia broadcast service in London using NextWave Wireless' 3G MBMS based TDtv solution. The pilot, scheduled for the second half of 2008, is designed to demonstrate how the cost of providing mobile TV services can be significantly reduced when mobile operators share widely-available unpaired 3G spectrum and a standards-based TDtv broadcast network.  more

Huawei and Qualcomm Test VoIP over HSPA within an IMS Platform

Huawei Technologies says that it has successfully completed commercial technology testing for 'VoIP over HSPA' in Shanghai in conjunction with Qualcomm. They say that this is the industry's first VoIP service display with an all IP end-to-end solution that is based on a commercial chipset and IMS-based system platform. Huawei put IP voice into an HSPA transfer channel, a technology called 'VoIP over HSPA'. The testing uses Huawei's UMTS/HSPA and IMS systems, including all RNC (Radio Network Controller ) base and all IP transmission system and Qualcomm's MSM7200 chipset solution.  more
