Huawei Completes a Circuit Switched Fallback Voice Call for LTE Networks

­Huawei says that it has successfully completed a circuit switched (CS) fallback voice call with an unnamed 3rd-party handset provider. Conducted at Huawei's LTE and Evolved Packet Core (EPC) Interoperability Testing Lab in Shanghai, the call demonstrates that operators using LTE/EPC to provide pure data services will still be able to leverage its existing CS network to provide voice services.  more

3GPP Mobile Broadband Subscriptions Now Exceed 100 Million in Western Hemisphere

4G Americas - a wireless industry trade association - has announced that more than 100 million mobile broadband customers in the Americas region are using 3gpp technology. With an annualized growth rate of 77 percent for the Western Hemisphere, including 158 percent annual growth in Latin America and 55 percent in the U.S. and Canada, the regional growth for 3gpp mobile broadband far exceeds the 40 percent growth of 3gpp mobile broadband worldwide at the 12 months ending September 2010 (subscriber data according to Informa Telecoms & Media WCIS).  more

ITU-R Confers IMT-Advanced (4G) Status to 3GPP LTE

3GPP Mobile Broadband Technologies Achieve 73% of New Connections in the Americas

3gpp mobile broadband technology (UMTS-HSPA) grew by 11.9 million new subscriptions, of the total (net) 16.3 million mobile subscriptions added in the second quarter 2010 throughout the Americas, reports 3G Americas. The explosion of 3gpp mobile broadband subscriptions earmarks the increasing interest of mobile users in advanced 3G technology services and applications, and the growing proliferation of smartphones, and represents 73 percent of the total (net) new connections in the mobile industry in North, Central and South America in the second quarter.  more
