3 UK to Scrap Top-Up Fee Requirement for Skype Users
Hutchison 3g UK (3 UK) has announced that it will offer unlimited Skype-to-Skype calls and instant messages at no charge to anyone with a 3 SIM card. Starting from next month, there will be no data charges or top-up fees for either contract or pay-as-you-go customers who use Skype on 3's UK network. Anyone with a 3 UK branded Skype-enabled handset will be able to buy a 3 SIM and talk as much as they want to other Skype users without ever having to pay another penny. more

VoIP provider Skype has confirmed speculation and announced that it has launched a Skype application for the Apple iPhone, which will be available on the Apple App Store from today. The app also adds Skype calling and instant messaging to any second generation iPod touch with a compatible headset and microphone. more

Western European Mobile Phone Market now in Recession
Three consecutive quarters of negative growth have led the Western European mobile phone market into recession. According to IDC's European Mobile Phone Tracker, vendors shipped 53.6 million units in 4Q08, 13.5% lower than the 62 million units shipped in 4Q07. For the full year 2008, vendors shipped 190.5 million units in Western Europe, 5.9% lower than the 202.5 million units shipped in 2007. more

Nokia to Integrate Skype VoIP Services into Nokia Phones
Skype and Nokia have announced a partnership that will bring Skype's VoIP platform to the Nokia range of mobile phones. Under the terms of the cooperation, Skype will be integrated into Nokia devices, starting with the Nokia Nseries. The Nokia N97 device will be the first to incorporate the Skype experience in the 3rd quarter of 2009. more
