­Finland and Russia have agreed on how to coordinate the use of the 900Mhz frequency band in mobile communications. As a result, 3g networks operating in the 900 band can be constructed near the border, too, which will improve the availability of high-speed data connections in these areas.  more

Mobistar Profits Up Despite Price Pressures

Belgium based Mobistar has reported a slight rise in first-quarter revenues of 2.5% to reach EUR 371.2 million (US$483.8 million) - although its customer base rose by 6.4% over the same period. The company said the disparity was determined in part by the continuing price pressure in a highly competitive market, by the regulatory decisions (lowering of the mobile termination rates in May and July 2008) and a reduced activity in the business market.  more

AT&T Sees Surge in Wi-Fi Connections

AT&T has reported dramatic growth in the number of Wi-Fi users and connections. The US firm reported Wi-Fi connections totaled 10.5 million in the first quarter of 2009 - more than triple the 3.4 million connections in the first quarter of 2008, and more than half AT&T's 20 million total Wi-Fi connections for all of 2008.  more

Deutsche Telekom Issues Profits Warning - May Write Down T-Mobile Value

Deutsche Telekom has issued a profits warning, and now expects adjusted EBITDA in 2009 to be 2 to 4 percent below last year. The company is now expecting to post EBITDA in the range of EUR18.7 billion - EUR19.1 billionn (US$24.7 billionn) after an initial forecast of EUR19.5 billion.  more

Vodafone Gets Tango'd

Vodafone has signed a partnership deal with Luxembourg mobile network operator, Tango - replacing a contract with rival operator LuxGSM which recently expired. Vodafone said that the partnership strengthens the existing relationship between Vodafone and Belgacom, Tango's parent company.  more
