Latvia's LTM Refarming GSM Spectrum for 3G Services

­Radio spectrum optimisation company, Mesaplexx,sayd that it has provided Latvia based mobile network, LMT with a spectrum optimisation platform for the roll out 3g services to its rural customers. Orange France Tests 3G Services in the 1800Mhz Spectrum Bands

­Orange France has tested HSPA services over its existing GSM 1800Mhz spectrum, using equipment supplied by Ericsson, ST-Ericsson, and Quanta Computer. The operator expects to start refarming its 1800Mhz spectrum over to 3g services later this year.  more

Optus Buys Australian 3G Radio Spectrum from Qualcomm

Australian mobile network operator, Optus will double its radio spectrum in urban areas if plans to buy spectrum from Qualcomm's local subsidiary are approved. The mobile network says that it has signed an agreement to acquire spectrum licences for 10MHz of paired spectrum in the 2100MHz band in Australia's capital cities.  more

China Telecom Profits Slump 96.3% on Write-Downs

China Telecom has reported a 96.3 percent slump in its full-year profits after making a RMB 24 billion (US$3.5 billion) write-down of its legacy XiaoLingTong wireless network which faces closure. Both China Telecom and China Unicom have been ordered to shut down their low-cost XiaoLingTong mobile telephone system in order to free up the radio spectrum for 3g services. The two companies have been given three years to shut down the networks.  more

Ofcom Outlines Revised Plans for 900Mhz Spectrum

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom has revised its plans to liberalise the management of the radio spectrum - which is says will offer faster and more reliable wireless broadband services. The consultation builds on earlier Ofcom work to liberalise spectrum for mobile phone services and make its use more efficient.  more
