UK Consumers Rate Voice and SMS Costs More Important than Mobile Data Services

British consumers view call and text prices as more important than 3g and social networking capabilities, research commissioned by UK based firm, OpenCloud has found. In a survey of 1,000 consumers, over 80 per cent of consumers see call and text prices as the most important factors when looking for a new phone, whereas two-thirds of respondents view social networking applications as luxury additions and non-essential.  more

Hong Kong Mobile Data Users Transfer Average 44Mbytes Per Month

Hong Kong's telecoms regulator, OFTA has published for the first time the statistics of local mobile data usage, which sees a surge to 147 Terabytes (i.e. 147,000 Gigabytes) as of January 2009, or an average amount of 44 Mbytes per 2.5G/3g mobile user for that particular month.  more

Nokia Siemens Completes 2nd Phase of China Mobile TD-SCDMA Rollout

Femtocells Deliver 5-Times Speed of Macro Network in Operator Trials

Femtocell developer, Airvana has published results of performance tests of the company's HubBub CDMA femtocell which it says demonstrated dramatic improvements for indoor 3g coverage and performance when compared with using the existing macro-cellular network alone. Based on the results of side-by-side testing, a typical HubBub user can expect to achieve broadband data rates throughout their house of approximately five times that of the existing wireless macro network.  more
