Alcatel-Lucent Wins Chinese Contracts Worth $1.7 Billion

Top-five handset OEM signs first Coolteq deal

World's First Femtocell Standard Published by 3GPP

Three trade bodies, The Femto Forum, 3gPP and the Broadband Forum have jointly announced that the world's first femtocell standard has been officially published by 3gPP, paving the way for interoperability between different vendors' access points and femto gateways. The new standard, which forms part of 3gPP's Release 8, and interdependent with Broadband Forum extensions to its Technical Report-069 (TR-069), has been completed in just 12 months following cooperation between the three groups.  more

VoIP provider Skype has confirmed speculation and announced that it has launched a Skype application for the Apple iPhone, which will be available on the Apple App Store from today. China Unicom Selects Alcatel-Lucent to Deploy 3G Networks in 14 Provinces

Alcatel-Lucent says that it has been selected by China Unicom to deploy 3g W-CDMA networks in 14 Chinese provinces. Initial network deployments in the cities of Tianjin, Baoding, Wenzhou, Taizhou, Guiyang and Guilin are expected to be completed in May, 2009.  more

Hong Kong Network Orders Network Opimisation Software

Optimi says that it has been selected by Hong Kong based mobile network operator, CSL to provide network planning and optimization solutions for both its 2G and 3g networks. Under this agreement, Optimi will supply its xACP platform, for RF design and optimization of 2G and 3g networks; and xParameters, for automated optimization of key radio resource management parameters in 2G and 3g networks, in order to improve the performance of the existing network infrastructure and therefore reduce the need for future capital outlays.  more

ZTE, Other 3G Device Providers Play Active Role in Deploying 3G Networks in China

CCID, a research firm in China disclosed recently in an industry report which predicted that the rapid deployment of 3g networks in China will eventually result in the creation of about 660,000 3g subscriber lines by Q3 this year.
