ZTE Tops China Mobile 3G Contract
ZTE is reported to have picked up just over a third of the latest TD-SCDMA tender from China Mobile, reports the Interfax news agency. Huawei won 22% of the contract, while Datang Telecom was awarded 16%. Other equipment manufacturers share the remainder, every company to have 5-6%. more

Just Under 3 Billion SIM Cards Shipped in 2008
SIMalliance, the global association of SIM card manufacturers has reported that global SIM card shipments exceeded 2.9 billion units during 2008, with strong demand from the emerging markets of India, China, Asia Pacific and Latin America contributing to a 29 per cent increase on shipments over the previous year. more

Dell Reported to be in Talks for Chinese Smartphones
Dell Computers, which has been rumoured to be entering the smartphone market for several years, is now hotly rumoured to be in talks with China Mobile to launch its first range of handsets in the country. The company has been apparently rebuffed by several operators who considered prototype handsets as bland an uninspiring. However China Mobile is thought to be keen on the models presented to it. more

ZTE, Other 3G Device Providers Play Active Role in Deploying 3G Networks in China
CCID, a research firm in China disclosed recently in an industry report which predicted that the rapid deployment of 3g networks in China will eventually result in the creation of about 660,000 3g subscriber lines by Q3 this year. This will make China the country with the largest 3g network construction in the world. more

China Mobile to Have 100 Million 3G Subscribers in 2011
China Mobile aims to have 100 million TD-SCDMA users in the next three years, with the figure reaching 10 million this year, according to company executives and government officials. Lu Dongfeng, vice-president of Datang Telecom Technology, a provider of TD-SCDMA products, said at an industry forum in Chongqing that China plans to have 100 million TD-SCDMA users by the end of 2011. more
