Tablet Sales Booming Alongside 3G and 4G Network Subscriber Growth
Parks Associates forecasts more than 68 million of the 126 million tablets sold worldwide in 2015 will have 3g or greater technology. Operators Rushing to Upgrade Their 3G Networks While LTE Waits in the Wings
LTE trials are picking up pace, with operators eager to roll out 4G networks as soon as possible. As of the end of September 2009, 100 mobile networks had LTE trials or commitments to trial underway. The Asia-Pacific region accounted for more than 40 of these trials, with operators in Japan and South Korea leading the way. In addition, 33 contracts for LTE equipment have been announced. more
ITU Receives Six Proposals for 4G Mobile Technologies
The ITU says that it has received six candidate technology submissions for the global 4G mobile wireless broadband technology known as IMT-Advanced. Qualcomm and Broadcom Wave a Paper and Declare "Peace For Our Time"
The acrimonious patent battle between Qualcomm and Broadcom is finally over. The two firms have entered into a settlement and multi-year patent agreement, which will result in the dismissal with prejudice of all litigation between the companies, including all patent infringement claims in the International Trade Commission and U.S. District Court in Santa Ana, as well as the withdrawal by Broadcom of its complaints to the European Commission and the Korea Fair Trade Commission. more

Finland Awards Radio Spectrum for LTE Networks
Finland's TeliaSonera, Elisa and DNA have been allocated additional frequencies enabling them to start building fourth generation (LTE) mobile networks. The frequencies are located in the 1,800 MHz band, which will make Finland the first country in Europe to allow the use of 4G LTE technology at such low frequencies. more
