Orange France Tests 3G Services in the 1800Mhz Spectrum Bands
Orange France has tested HSPA services over its existing GSM 1800Mhz spectrum, using equipment supplied by Ericsson, ST-Ericsson, and Quanta Computer. The operator expects to start refarming its 1800Mhz spectrum over to 3g services later this year. more

Hong Kong Undreground Railway Extension Gets Mobile Phone Coverage
A major extension to Hong Kong's mass transit railway will feature another wireless communications network from wireless confined-coverage system solutions provider, Radio Frequency Engineering (RFE). Enlisted by mobile network operator, SmarTone-Vodafone, RFE will design, supply, install and commission a turnkey commercial wireless communications solution for the MTR's new LOHAS Park Station and tunnel extension. more

O2, Vodafone Reported to be in Network Sharing Talks
UK operators, O2 and Vodafone are reported to be in advanced talks regarding sharing their network infrastructure. Citing people close to the talks, the Financial Times that a deal "could provide them with significant savings in capital and operating spending". Vodafone's CEO, Vittorio Collao is currently seeking annual cost savings of £1bn by 2010-11 to bring the UK divisions' operating margins up to the average compared to its other country networks. more
