Qiao Xing Mobile to Boost 3G Phone Development Staff

China's Qiao Xing Mobile says that it plans to accelerate its 3G mobile phone R&D by adding 200 engineers to its existing R&D team in Beijing in 2009. Nokia Siemens and Ericsson May Win 20% of Chinese 3G Tender

China Mobile is expected to announce the winners of its US$4.4 billion 3G network tender, with Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) and Ericsson both expected to receive around 10% of the contract each. The contract is for the second phase of China Mobile's trial TD-SCDMA based service which aims to expand the network to a further 28 cities.  more

China Mobile Planning to Open Silicon Valley R&D Office

China Mobile Records 490,000 Phone Calls During Olympic Ceremonies

A China Mobile spokesman has said that nearly half a million phone calls were made on its GSM network around the Olympic stadium during the opening and closing ceremonies. Almost 24,000 users made calls in and around the National Stadium, the Bird's Nest, during Sunday night's closing ceremony. The figure included about 20,000 international roaming service users.  more

Symbian Based S60 Platform Ported to Chinese 3G Handset

Digia says that it has integrated Nokia's S60 platform into a TD-SCDMA based mobile phone. The solution was demonstrated in Beijing, China using TD-SCDMA/EDGE modem by ST-NXP Wireless and T3G Technologies as well as China Mobile's TD-SCDMA 3G network.  more

Free 3G Phones for the Beijing Olympics Organizing Committee

China Mobile says that it plans to donate some 15,000 3G phones based on the home grown TD-SCDMA technology to the Beijing Olympics Organizing Committee. Wang Jianzhou, CEO of China Mobile (CHL), said at a press conference that the company now had a trial TD-SCDMA network up and running in eight cities, Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xiamen and Qinhuangdao.  more

Samsung Launches First TD-SCDMA Handset

Philips, Samsung and T3G have announced that they are bringing TD-SCDMA handsets to the Chinese market. The Samsung video phone, announced in August 2005 is available now and has already been experienced by Huang Ju, China's Vice Premier. The Samsung video phone is the world's first handset to utilise China's newly developed TD-SCDMA network. The dual-mode Samsung video phone, which combines Philips EDGE Nexperia cellular system solution 6120 with a TD-SCDMA processor developed by Philips and T3G and a protocol stack developed by T3G, will be available on China's 3G network as soon as operator licenses are granted, most likely in Q2 2006. more
