3G to Restructure China's Mobile Phone Market
China's CCID Consulting has reported that with demand still affected by various setbacks that occurred in the first half of 2009, growth in the domestic mobile phone market, in particular the GSM mobile phone sector, has remained sluggish since late last year. A lack of innovative technology and new design in mobile phone products in 2009, as well the anticipated release of 3G mobile phone products have kept consumers from purchasing new phones. As a result, the GSM market has not seen much growth over the first half of 2009. more

Telecom New Zealand Outlines 3G Network Launch Details
Telecom New Zealand has revealed more of the services coming on its WCDMA based XT Mobile network including changes to mobile plan charging, and a range of handset and content announcements. At a media briefing, Group CEO Paul Reynolds said Telecom is changing the game for mobile customers by having fewer plans that are less complicated and take away the guesswork. more

BSNL Launches 3G Services in 11 Cities
Ericsson has issued an update on its Sept 2007 contract win from India's BSNL - and says it achieved the country's biggest simultaneous launch of 3G services to date, across 11 major cities. As part of its roll-out strategy, BSNL plans to launch 3G services using WCDMA/HSPA technology across more than 700 cities in the first phase. more

iPhone in China: China Mobile or China Unicom?

reported in 2007. While many expected to see the two shake hands, no deal has
yet been announced and it is now rumoured that Apple will partner with China
