Israel Consults on Possible 3G Spectrum Auction

India's 3G License Auction Confirmed - Starts Jan 16th 2009
India's government has finalised the plans for its 3G and WiMAX auctions - with the 3G auctions starting on January 16th next year. Auctions for WiMAX licenses will commence two days after the 3G licenses are sold. more

Qualcomm Says Thailand Needs at Least Three 3G Networks
Qualcomm Thailand country manager, Kaneungjit Suriyathumrongkul has warned that Thailand will need at least three 3G networks to ensure sufficient competition in the market. Ms Suriyathumrongkul also noted that MVNOs were an option for the country, but only if the underlying network is good and expressed concerns with the idea of a shared national network. more

France's telecoms regulator, ARCEP says that it is preparing to issue a fourth 3G license and also consulting on plans to allow WCDMA networks to operate in the existing 2G GSM frequency bands. more

MobilCom hands back its 3G license
Germany's MobilCom has handed back its 3G license to the telecoms regulator. The company says that it is now free to resell 3G services as an MVNO without the cost of building its own network. The license conditions prevent a license holder from also operating as an MVNO. more
