China Mobile Expanding its 3G Trial to More Cities
China Mobile Communications Corp, the parent company of Hong Kong listed China Mobile is planning to expand its TD-SCDMA 3G trials to more cities. The operator is currently trialling the network in eight cities, Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xiamen and Qinhuangdao. more

China Moves Closer to Telecoms Restructuring Plans
The Chinese government has reportedly signed off on the long anticipated restructuring of the local telecoms market. Under the plans, reported in the South China Morning Post, China Mobile, the dominant mobile operator, will merge with fixed-line company China Tietong, which is currently a subsidiary of the national railway. more

The Baltic News Service has reported that Latvia's Transport Minister, Anatolijs Gorbunovs has signed an agreement with the UK based National Economic Research Associates (NERA) to manage the sale of three 3G licenses and one GSM1800 license in the country. The law firm, Grunte un Cers will ensure legal compliance and Hansabank Markets will offer commercial information on the interested bidders. more

Italian media has reported over the weekend that Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) is close to buying the Blu GSM network. Blu's leading shareholders, motorway operator Autostrade and BT , put the group up for sale more than a year ago after it controversially withdrew from Italy's 3G auction. The company is also still loss making and urgently needs a cash injection to keep operating. more
