India's BSNL Planning 3G Launch Across 700 Cities

India's state-owned operator, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) intends to expand its 3G network to 700 cities across the North and East of the country by June. Indian Network "Soft-Launches" 3G Coverage in Delhi

India finally launched a 3G network today as state-controlled operator, Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Limited (MTNL) launched a WCDMA network in the capital city, Delhi. The company is only offering a "soft-launch" though, and coverage is limited to the main business and political districts, Connaught Place, Sanchar Bhawan, Rajaji Marg, India Gate, Pragati Maidan, Delhi Gate, and Minto Road.  more

Government Drives 3G Wireless Transition in China

China's National Development & Reform Commission (NDRC) believes that a fundamental restructuring of the nation's telecom industry is essential to promote the long-term growth of the country's fixed and wireless core communications networks. Because of this, the Chinese government is offering 3G licenses to the four state-owned telcos-China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom and China Netcom-as incentives if they are willing to accept reforms, according to iSuppli. more
