Fitch: India's 3G Auction Adds to Telecom Sector Credit Woes
Fitch Ratings says that India's just concluded 3G licences and spectrum auction will have a negative impact on the credit metrics of most private telecom operators in the short to medium term. In a report to be published shortly, the agency estimates the high up-front licence and spectrum fees would significantly raise net debt levels for most of the telcos -- and financial leverage can accordingly be expected to deteriorate -- assuming Indian telcos fund their purchases at the auction through debt. more

China Mobile Full-Year Profits Up 30 Percent
China Mobile has reported an 29.6 percent rise in its full-year earnings to reach RMB 112.8 billion (US$16.53 billion), but warned that profits growth slowed in the final quarter as competition intensified and the economic slowdown took its toll. Full-year operating revenues reached RMB 412.3 billion (US$60.4 billion), up 15.5 percent. year-on-year. more

Vivo Q2 net loss narrows 77% at US$60mn
Brazil's largest mobile operator Vivo Participações reported a net loss of 113mn reais (US$60mn) for the second quarter of 2007, down 77% compared to the 493mn-real loss in 2Q06, Vivo said in a statement. more
