Thailand's Advanced Info Service (AIS) is reported to have launched its long planned 3G network - operating in the 900Mhz band - in the capital city, Bangkok. China Unicom Plans 3G Launch by Year-End
China Unicom expects to start a trial WCDMA network in seven cities by the end of this year - said Chang Xiaobing, chairman and CEO of the mobile network operator. Sources within the company suggest that the seven cities will be Shanghai, Shenzhen, Foshan, Liuzhou, Zhengzhou, Baoding and Wuxi, with about 100 W-CDMA base stations in each city. more

Qualcomm Says Thailand Needs at Least Three 3G Networks
Qualcomm Thailand country manager, Kaneungjit Suriyathumrongkul has warned that Thailand will need at least three 3G networks to ensure sufficient competition in the market. Ms Suriyathumrongkul also noted that MVNOs were an option for the country, but only if the underlying network is good and expressed concerns with the idea of a shared national network. more

Vodafone Signs Tower Sharing Deal with NZ Communications
New Zealand's 3rd mobile operator, NZ Communications says that it has inked a deal with Vodafone to rent space on up to 116 of the rival operator's towers.
