Spectrum Auctions Likely to Delay European Telco Deleveraging

­Fitch Ratings says in a new report that deleveraging by western European telecoms operators is likely to be delayed as expected spectrum auctions in 2010 and 2011 will prompt significant cash outflows. However, the agency notes that spectrum costs alone are unlikely to trigger rating downgrades, unless auction costs are significantly higher-than-expected.  more

Thailand's TOT to Proceed with 3G Rollout Plans

­Thai mobile network operator, TOT is to push ahead with its plans for a 3G network, despite recent reports that it would delay its plans pending the final 3G license tender. Thailand's Information and Communications Technology Minister, Ranongruk Suwanchawee said that his ministry had the final say over plans by the state-owned telecoms operator in this area.  more

Switzerland Starts Preparing for Radio Spectrum Auctions in 2013

India's 3G License Auction to Take Place in January - Maybe

­India's Department of Telecoms (DoT) has announced the latest dates for the country's oft-delayed 3G license auctions. The auction, which had been expected to take place in December, will now start on 14th January 2010. A practice run will take place a couple of days prior to the live auction.  more

Zain Kenya Applies for 3G License

­Zain's Kenyan subsidiary has applied to buy a 3G license from the telecoms regulator, making it the second operator in the country, after Safaricom, to hold a 3G license. The company is expected to pay $25 million for the license.  more

French Operators File Complaints Against 3G License Auction

­Two of France's three mobile network operators have filed formal complaints against the regulator's upcoming 3G license auction. Both Vivendi and Bouygues Telecom have filed complaints with France's highest administrative court, the Conseil d'Etat over the reserve price being set for the license.  more
