3G Americas Publishes Report on Smart Antennas
The trade association, 3G Americas has announced the publication of an educational report on the topic of smart antenna systems - also known as multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology. Smart antenna, or MIMO, technology is commonly defined as, the use of two or more unique radio signals, in the same radio channel, where each signal carries different digital information, or two or more radio signals that use beam forming, receive combining and spatial multiplexing (SM). Relative to a traditional 1x1 antenna system, a 2x2 MIMO system is expected to deliver significant cell throughput gain. more

72% Share of Market for GSM Technologies in Western Hemisphere

Report Says that SMS is Not Ideal for Emergency Communications
US trade group, 3G Americas has published a research report focusing on restrictions on the use of SMS as an emergency alert service. The use of text messaging or SMS has become ubiquitous and commonplace for recreational and business purposes. According to CTIA -The Wireless Association, text messaging has set new records in the United States, with 75 billion messages reported in the month of June 2008 alone -- about 2.5 billion messages a day. Accordingly, SMS messaging is now viewed by many as a reliable method of communication when all other means appear unavailable, and some third party companies are offering emergency notification services based on SMS. more

Over One Million New GSM Subscriptions a Day Worldwide
3G Americas, a wireless industry trade association is reporting that in the year ending June 30, 2008, GSM/HSPA networks added over 115 million subscriptions in the Americas region with a market share of 67%. According to industry research firm, Informa Telecoms & Media, global GSM/HSPA wireless subscriptions as of June 30, 2008 totaled 3.2 billion adding more than a million new subscriptions for the GSM family of technologies per day worldwide. more
