3 UK Switches 2G Roaming Contract

Hutchison 3G UK has swapped its existing GSM roaming agreement in the UK with O2 for rival operator, Orange. The new agreement follows the completion of an auction for 3's national roaming business. Hutch says that Orange tendered the most competitive bid for the supply of voice, text and data services and has been selected as the preferred national roaming provider for 3 from the end of 2006. more

HSDPA Test Calls Made In UK

Hutchison 3G UK has announced a successful trial of High Speed Downlink Packet Access ("HSDPA") on its 3G network in the UK. The trial, which has been running for the last four months, has already delivered speeds of up to 1.4 million bits per second, over three times faster than current 3G speeds and more than forty times faster than GPRS. The first voice and data downloads on HSDPA were performed over 3's network in Maidenhead. more
