Alcatel-Lucent Expands Italian Mobile TV Network
Alcatel-Lucent has signed a turnkey equipment and services contract with Hutchison 3G Italia to expand and optimize its broadcast Mobile TV network throughout Italy. Alcatel-Lucent's solution for 3 Italia, based on its DVB-H terrestrial transmitters, its remote monitoring system and including network integration services, will enable 3 Italia to increase the indoor and outdoor coverage of its broadcast Mobile TV network, while optimizing network efficiency for enhanced Mobile TV service delivery. more

Eastern European Operators Turning to Mobile TV for New Revenue
Since 2005, mobile operators are noticing a steady depreciation of average revenue per user (ARPU). The reality is the European mobile market is saturated with over 100 percent of its population owning mobiles. Revenue growth strategies rooted in acquiring new customers are rendered ineffective. Mobile Broadcast TV, a Successful Business Model with the Right Approach
A first for European consumers, free mobile TV is landing on their fingertips as 3 Italia starts offering free mobile broadcast TV, based on DVB-H. The user will be able to watch TV channels between 8 am and midnight at no extra cost. This will be possible through the support of dynamic advertising, i.e. adverts that will dynamically interact with the users. This new service will be branded "La3" and it is unique in Europe. Presently, similar offerings exist only in Japan and South Korea. more

ZTE Wins 3G Handset Order from Hutchison 3G
China's ZTE has been selected by Hutchison 3G Italy (3) to produce two handsets which have been designed by Italian design center, MOMODESIGN. The MD2 is a 3G clamshell handset, while MD3 is a DVB-H and HSDPA videophone, adopting chipset Qualcomm MSM 6280, with a form factor featuring touch screen functions and with a screen that rotates 360, enabling all-rounded video viewing. more

Gemplus USIM Cards Chosen by 3 for Mobile TV
Gemplus says that it has been selected as the exclusive USIM partner of 3 Italia, for its world first Mobile TV service. Based on DVB-H technology, the service will be launched on 3 Italia's network prior to the FIFA World Cup in June 2006. more
