
In September, Ericsson reached a milestone in the mobile prepaid area as more than 100 million subscribers now are served by an Ericsson prepaid system. Ericsson says that it remains the leading supplier in this field and continues to grow more than the market average.
Ericsson has further strengthened its position as a market leader in the prepaid area, and during the past twelve months, the number of subscribers using an Ericsson system has increased by 30%. The market average during the same period was 24%, according to EMC World Cellular Database.
Today, there are over 500 million mobile prepaid users worldwide, and leading industry analyst firm Ovum predicts that by 2008, prepaid will account for 63% of all wireless connections.
Ericsson is the market leader in mobile prepaid systems with a 20% market share and 95 customers in 70 countries. In the first half of 2003, Ericsson received 16 new prepaid contracts.
"Ericsson is active in evolving the prepaid area further. We see an even stronger demand for realtime charging solutions for both prepaid and postpaid subscribers as operators are launching new mobile media services," says Mats Hellman, Vice President, Ericsson's charging solutions unit."
