Sony Ericsson has been forced to recall chargers for a range of its handsets in the UK after it discovered that they could prove harmful to users. In press adverts, the company has asked owners to contact their customer care department for a free replacement. The company sales could suffer, as retailers will have to remove all SonyEricsson stock from sale to check if any has the faulty charger.
The charger is manufactured in Thailand by Delta, an external supplier, and has the identification number BML 162 099/3 R1A printed on the socket face, along with "made in Thailand by Delta". The charger has been included with the following Sony Ericsson Phone Models: T68i, T300, T310, T610 and a number of Bluetooth handsfree and other Sony Ericsson accessories. The charger has also been sold separately.
There have been a limited number of incidents in the UK, where a pressure build-up in the charger has caused the top plastic part of the charger to brake off, with the danger of hitting someone. If the charger does break apart, the electronics of the charger may be exposed thereby creating a risk of giving a person touching these parts an electric shock. In such circumstance, there could also be a risk of fire, if the charger is in proximity of flammable material."
