Fennolingua says that it is organising the fourth Mobile Phone Throwing World Championships on Saturday the 23rd of August, 2003 in Savonlinna, on the Riihisaari island, Finland. The equipment for the competition are original brands, such as Nokia, Ericsson and others. All mobile phones are provided by Fennolingua, will come with original batteries, and will be tested by Softatest.
You can register either in Freestyle or Original (the traditional over the shoulder -style). Alternatively, you can register as a team (max. three persons / team). They also have a Junior category for competitors of under 12 years. For some reason, entrants in the Freestyle category who throw mobiles that reach as far as Lake Saimaa will be disqualified.
Grading in Freestyle is based on style and aesthetics, whereas in Original the grading is purely based on length and style. In both categories three prizes will be awarded.
Naturally, the goal is to break last year's incredible record of 66.72 meters. With nearly one hundred participants last year, the organiser is hoping for equally active participation this year.
The idea for the Championships came from Fennolingua Oy, which is a company offering translation and interpretation services."
