Canada's MTS has completed the installation, in 62 rural Manitoba communities, of a CDMA 1xRTT upgrade. With this major installation phase complete, the service is now available in more than 70 communities in Manitoba.
"We know that our customers want greater speeds on our wireless services, and that's what we're providing with the roll-out of our 1xRTT service in rural Manitoba," says Cheryl Barker, President and COO of MTS Communications Inc. "With this advanced network, our customers can surf the Internet, download information, and access their email much faster than before."
The 1xRTT network provides speeds up to 86 Kbps - up to five times faster than previous wireless speeds. When MTS's Digital Compression service is added, speeds are even higher. 1xRTT is an 'always on' service so the user has quick access to the Internet, without having to reconnect each time.
In late May, 1xRTT service was launched in Brandon, Gimli, Lac Du Bonnet, and a number of communities in Manitoba's cottage country. With the installation of the service in 62 more communities, MTS's roll-out is almost complete; the few remaining communities will receive the service in the months ahead."
