USA Network Switches to IP Based Messaging Solution

LogicaCMG, today announced that it has expanded its relationship with the USA based network operator, Dobson Communications through the deployment of an IP based messaging architecture. This architecture will immediately enable Dobson Communications to provide advanced messaging capabilities for the carrier's newly expanded GSM network.

The first of these capabilities enables Dobson customers to seamlessly send and receive text messages to other wireless subscribers using either Dobson's existing TDMA technology or the new GSM technology that Dobson is overlaying on its networks. Dobson Communication's aggressive text messaging strategy builds upon their current success and comes at a time when the US messaging market is building significant momentum. In March 2003 1.5 billion text messages were exchanged in the US and, according to IDC, revenue generated by text messaging in the United States will grow to US$1.9 billion in 2007.

Tim Duffy, senior vice president and chief technical officer, Dobson Communications, said: "We needed a proven data messaging solution which could offer advanced functionality and seamlessly connect both TDMA and GSM users of our networks. Looking to the future, we wanted to make sure that we could implement innovative messaging services quickly and easily for our entire customer base, as well as for the customers of our roaming partners when they travel through Dobson markets. With LogicaCMG's solution, we'll have the messaging functionality that we need to serve our customers and continue growing our wireless data business."
