US Network Improves Roaming Revenues

LogicaCMG has won a contract with the USA network operator, Midwest Wireless to deploy a combined Short Messaging Service Center (SMSC) and Over-the-Air Activation (OTA) solution.

The solution will enable Midwest Wireless to activate handsets and manage roaming databases to ensure their subscribers use networks that provide the best coverage. This will also enable Midwest Wireless to realize significant cost savings by availing of the most advantageous roaming agreements. In addition, these subscribers will be offered the ability to exchange SMS messages with handsets on either of the carriers TDMA or CDMA networks.

At the core of the LogicaCMG solution is the ability to download and manage TDMA intelligent roaming databases and CDMA preferred roaming lists to subscriber handsets, allowing subscribers to obtain the most advantageous roaming rates with Midwest Wireless roaming partners.

Brian Fingerson, vice president of engineering and technology for Midwest Wireless, said: "We needed a solution that would enable us to offer new messaging services while keeping our cost of doing business low. We selected LogicaCMG's solution due to its quick time-to-market and their ability to work seamlessly with our existing billing systems and within our TDMA and CDMA network environments. As a result of this integration we can protect our previous technology investments and are able to achieve maximum return on our infrastructure investments."
