Siemens has set up a mobile network in the region around the Khanty-Mansiysk ski center (Siberia), in order to provide coverage during the Biathlon World Championships. The order was awarded by the local mobile operator CJSC Ermak RMS. Siberia's leading mobile operator, Ermak RMS, has been a customer of Siemens mobile since early 2001 and is being supplied with switching and transmission equipment conforming to the GSM900 and GSM1800 standard. This add-on order approximately doubles the network capacity of Ermak RMS.
With a 25% market share, Siemens mobile holds top position in business in GSM mobile radio infrastructure and, alongside Ermak RMS, supplies customers such as Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), MegaFon Group and Tele2 Russia.
"This year Siemens is celebrating its 150th anniversary in Russia and can look back on a long tradition. Siemens mobile has been able to build on this and secure a leading role in the market," said Rudi Lamprecht, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG. "We're promising ourselves a great deal from the mobile communications market in modernized Russia and want to continue growing faster than the market with our business."
The mobile phone manufacturer runs a software development center in St Petersburg and an international service center in Moscow. It also has a training center at the Moscow State University for Telecommunications."
