Lithuania's Omnitel has substantially increased the rate of data transfer via its GPRS network. This will enable users of Omnitel GPRS services to download much bigger amounts of information at a much higher speed. After the installation and testing of the new software in co-operation with Motorola the speed increase on Omnitel network amounts to from 41 to 73%. In the meantime the services of higher speed data transfer via GPRS network can be used by part of Omnitel network subscribers.
"We are very satisfied with the outcomes achieved. Now if you use an advanced telephone set you can reach the transfer rate of 64 kbps, and sometimes even up to 77 kbps. This is the speed of data transfer via a standard fixed telephone line. Today very rapid development of wireless technologies can be observed, and they are starting to leave wire technologies behind - these trends are also faced in Lithuania," says Head of Motorola's Representative Office in Lithuania
