Imhotek, a privately owned company specialising in providing messaging and knowledge management consultancy services and products, has announced the release of its Imhotek X-ccelerator Program (IXP) for the new P800 mobile phone from Sony Ericsson. IXP enables users of POP/IMAP and SMTP mail services to significantly reduce the size of data sent and received over GPRS and GSM.
IXP works in two parts. A server component is installed on a network with good links to mail servers. Companies can run their own IXP server (by purchasing an IXP server license) or use an Imhotek-hosted server for a monthly subscription. The IXP client is then installed on the P800, alongside its e-mail client. It is configured with the location of the IXP server, a username and password and the location of the user
